Lucky or Blessed

Updated: Mar 21, 2019

March is known for it’s focus on luck, regardless of being Irish or not. Let’s face it, luck is

something that we hear about every day, even if it is in the form of your friend wishing you “Good Luck!” If something good happens to us, how often do we say, “Wow, I am so lucky!” Or someone else tells us that we are. But do we really think about what we are saying and is it really luck when good things happen to us?

What does the Bible say about the source of good things? James 1:17 says “Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.” What wonderful news! If good things come from the Lord, then we can be confident of seeing more. “Seeing more” can even be in the form of a sweet smelling rose or a breathtaking sunset.

You ask, “But what of the bad things that happen? If I am to believe that all good comes from God and not luck, then doesn’t everything else (we mean the bad) come from Him too?” Well, my fiancé and I are studying the book of Job and what a beautiful explanation of where bad comes from…..and it’s not bad luck. The bad we experience, from the death of a loved one, to sickness and losses of every other kind, they all come from the same place.

The heart of our enemy, Satan. Every horrible thing that Job went through came from the hand of his and our enemy. None of it came from the Lord. Was it allowed at the time? Yes, but in the end, Job was preserved and blessed for his faithfulness in spite of all.

So, when we are tempted to just give luck the credit, let us remember that all good things come from the hand of God because He loves us and we are His children. ALL of us!
