The theme for February is always love. Flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals and tender cards. All these things will be sold in an abundance this month. There is no argument that romantic love is greatly needed in this harsh and somewhat cold world we are living in. However, what about brotherly love? What about the love we are to show to those less fortunate than us?
The Bible gives us the perfect description of love in the book of 1 Corinthians. "Love is patient, love is kind. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." The scriptures also give one facet of showing that love in 1 John 3:16-18: "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."
These scriptures make it clear that love should be demonstrated in actions, not just words.

Let’s be honest, whether it be materially or emotionally, we all know someone in need. So, here is a challenge for this month of love. Sit down and think about the people you know and choose someone that is less fortunate than you financially or someone who is lonely and down and make the decision to pour into them. A few bags of groceries can do wonders to boost the hope in someone struggling financially. An afternoon spent with a lonely heart can do much to lighten their spirits.
Decide today to make a difference in someone’s life and as a side benefit you will find that your day is brightened too!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you all!
